Filfla is a small uninhabited rock some 5 kilometres away from the shore in the South of Malta. You may spot it in the middle of the sea when visiting the popular natural sites like Dingli Cliffs, Ghar Lapsi and Blue Grotto near Wied iz-Zurrieq or the Meghalitic temples Hagar Qim and Mnajdra.

It is a natural
reserve with its unique eco-system - birds, mammals, lizards, insects - and it is prohibited by law to lay foot on it unless for scientific purposes. Unfortunately this islet was used for target practice by the British Armed Forces between 1940s - 1970s. A good part of this fascinating place was destroyed as a result.
